The scope of the Conference is to provide the analysis of the latest international and national regulations in the field of maritime and transport law, with prominent speakers from various Croatian academic institutions (Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts – Zagreb, University of Zagreb, University of Rijeka and University of Zadar), and from a number of higher education institutions from abroad (Åbo Akademi University – Turku, University of Aberdeen, University of Ankara, University of Carthage, University Carlos III – Madrid, University of Herfordshire, University of Ljubljana, University of Milano – Bicocca, University of Pescara, University of Primorska, University of Udine, Nicolaus Copernicus University – Torun, Kyushu University – Fukuoka, City University – London, University of Southampton, University of Strathclyde, Swansea University – Wales, International Maritime Law Institute – Malta and World Maritime University – Malmö), as well as civil cervants from international organizations, government officials, experts from maritime industry and legal practitioners.
The Conference will enable researchers from this area to compare the legal regulations of different countries through presentations of outstanding university professors and renowned maritime law experts, and also to participate in discussions and analyse potential solutions of the emerging international legal instruments and of proposed amendments of the relevant maritime conventions. Besides keynote speeches and presentations, the Conference structure enables an effective contribution of participants who will have an opportunity to represent their own research projects before eminent academic researchers and experienced professionals. The working language is English.
The Conference attendance certificates signed by the Directors will be issued by the Inter-University Centre to participants.
The expected number of participants is between 40 and 50. The participants will have to pay a modest registration fee of 55 EUR directly to the Inter-University Centre when they apply at the IUC website. Additional fee of 70 EUR that will cover the cost of lunches and coffee breaks at the IUC Atrium, the participants will have to pay upon their arrival. For covering travel and accommodation expenses, interested participants are strongly advised to contact their home institutions as well as other foundations that finance participation in programmes. Conference directors can provide participants with formal invitation letters if needed. Concerned participants may apply until 11 August 2026 using the online application form at the IUC website. The Conference is dedicated to participants either at academic teaching positions or enrolled in advanced degrees of legal studies (graduate and postgraduate students, as well as doctoral candidates and researchers), practitioners and law officials from international organizations, state administration, courts of law and public attorney offices, and to professionals from shipping, transport, insurance and related industries.
Possible research output as contribution from the IMTL Conference may be published in the Inter-University Centre Working Paper Series.
